Born January 1834 in North Carolina to Samuel Smith Claytor (b. 1794 in Bedford Co. Virginia) and Rachel Cabe (b. about 1805). Samuel Baker Claytor married Elizabeth Graves Lovick (b. about 1836 in North Carolina) in 1866. They had one son. He died 12/22/1916 in Raleigh, North Carolina and was interred in Oakwood Cemetery - Raleigh, North Carolina (Confederate Section).

John Hamill was a member of the 'Enfield Blues' Co. I 1st NC. Later in Co. D, 24th NC. Wounded in the face at Drury's Bluff and lay upon the field of battle for one day before being carried to hospital. Survived the war and died in Halifax County, North Carolina ca. 1905. Mentioned in the book 'Rebel Boast' by Manley Wade Wellman written in the 1950's. He is my g-g-grandfather.
